Thanks for the replies so far.

If im honest, its more the lights im concerned about. Have auto lights on my current car, and its one of those features that you dont realise how useful it is until you dont have it anymore...

Until in the Volvo you notice there is no indicator showing you if the lights are on, my only real frustration with the car...

Auto lights/rain sensing wipers on the new R-Design?

Doesn't a little green light appear above the Auto dial when they are on?

Strange, I was watching it on mine this morning (MY13) and the light only came on when the auto lights turned themselves on.

if its any help, i have a R design Nav from the uk (2013) with auto wiper and steering and auto switching lights.

the green light on the light switch comes on when the lights auto-on.

the auto wipe works exactly as i would want it too.

Has your car got the Lighting Logic Upgrade software option that activates the front and rear position and marker lamps during daylight?

I believe that if that software download is applied, the LED above the 'Auto' switch position becomes permanently illuminated when the switch is in the 'Auto' position. I think that most of the cars with Active Xenon headlamps have this software option installed.

Ah - That would make sense as to why in my MY15 it is always illuminated as the front/rear sidelights are always on (also have xenons).

That makes sense though. My wife's car (not a Volvo) lets her leave the auto wiper turned on all the time. However because it is always on the wipers always do a wipe when you turn on the ignition. Not too bad in summer, but in the depths of a Scottish winter (or a Scandavian winter) when the blades may be frozen to the screen, or covered with heavy snow deposits then the wiper motor could be damaged by the heavy load
