Talking Volvo V40 T3 2016 - Launch Control ??

Hi guys,
I have a v40 t3 2016 and I've perceived the boost just starts on 3000 rpm.

It's clear this car doesn't come with launch control.

Is there anyway to do a manual launch control? If so, is that bad for the engine? And how can I do it?

Thank you very much!

Sorry for the unfamiliarity.

Mat

My brother has an Audi A3 170PS and has launch control.

Correct me if I'm wrong. But it just holds the handbrake, builds up the revs and lets you launch in an optimal fashion. Bit of a Gimmick.

Any sort of launching is bad for a clutch and gearbox.

Can anyone explain to me why anyone would need a launch control, apart from its providing the ability to, as they say Downunder, play silly b***ers?

So, strictly for the antisocial and/or those with fuel/rubber/money to burn.

Pretty much, although it might come in useful at a petrol station I frequent which is on a dual-carriage (70mph) way with no slip road (no idea, seems stupid to me). Not a necessity though, lorries and family cars with caravans get on just fine!

I don't speed but I like a bit of spirited driving getting up to speed when it's safe to do so now and again.

The T3's only got 152bhp - it's not exactly a candidate for launch control I'd have thought. It's usually only found on cars with dual-clutch semi-auto gearboxes anyway (like the Audi S-tronic DSG transmission). The V40's AW-sourced tranmissions are traditional torque converter-based automatics (the 1.6 used to have the Ford Powershift DSG transmission, but that doesn't have launch control either).

The traditional method on torque converter autos is left foot on brake, right foot on accelerator to desired RPM then let go of the brake pedal. It stll gives the transmission (and the transmission fluid) a bit of a battering though.

I was pleased to hear that. I know that slippage in the torque converter means that the car is slightly thirstier, but, on the other hand, it has been my experience that such transmissions are almost bombproof. We had an Opel Astra Caravan with such a transmission for 20.5 years and 346,000Km, and it never needed anything outside of annual service.

Needless to say, I did NOT exercise launch control à la Buzby!
