I have looked through several pages in this section but cannot find this question .. will the 17 inch wheels from the R Design fit a 2014 SE D2 currently running on 16 inch wheels? My guess is yes but want to make sure before spending money! The only thing I did find reading through this section was that the Co2 figures would change due to the wider tread? :-/

Sure I read somewhere that V40's with factory 16" wheels have greater steering rack travel, so fitting wider wheels can lead to contact between tyre and bodywork; don't quote me on this though.

Hmm, not that easy then .. I thought that with a greater diameter rim but lower profile tyre, the overall circumference of the wheel would be the same, hence no need to recalibrate the speedo?

You could be right, I could be wrong..

If you are going from 16" to the 17"x7J Ixion R Design wheels, the steering rack limiters do not need to be fitted (they are only required qhen 7.5J or 8J wheels are fitted due to potential rubbing issues). The 'Impulse Limiter' software application still needs to be downloaded to recalibrate the speedo though, as the wheels and tyres are not exactly the same rolling radius.
The two approved sizes for the 16" V40 rims are:
195/60R16 gives 800.0 revolutions per mile
205/55R16 gives 811.3 revolutions per mile
The 2 approved sizes fpr the 17" V40 rims are
205/50R17 gives 805.1 revolutions per mile
225/45R17 gives 808.2 revolutions per mile
See this link for the list of approved wheel and tyre sizes:
http://accessories.volvocars.com/en-mt/V40(13-)/Accessories/Document/VCC-499025/2017

Regarding the tyre sizes, if your car is a "zero road tax" low-emission D2 it should only be fitted with the 205/50R17 tyres. If it's not a low-emission D2, 225/45R17 tyres can be fitted as an alternative
It's all explained in the relevant page on the Volvo Accessories website:
http://accessories.volvocars.com/en-mt/V40(13-)/Accessories/Document/VCC-499017/2017

Note that I've had to go to the Volvo Malta accessories site there - Volvo UK and Volvo International have reworked their model accessories page system now that makes it painfully slow to use, and has also removed all the important information from view by the public. It now just tells you to check with your Volvo dealer for full compatibility information.

Remember you are looking (if using the approved tyre sizes) of variations of mostly 1% or less in overall diameter.
The normal wear of a tyre from new to legal minimum would change the diameter by more than that, nearer 2% I think.

Hallo. I need your advice here. I am thinking in my V40CC change the 16'' factory fitted rim (GENAM model) to 17'' (KEID model). My issue is that i do not want to go to tire 225/50 R17 (more noise & consumption..) as recommended but keep the current tire width (205mm) . So the alternative tire is 205/55 R17 . Will be any fitting problem the 205/55 R17 in the new rim?

Moreover with tire 205/55 R17 i will avoid to add the deflection limiter, for the time that the total wheel dim stays (almost) the same....What do you think?

Dear haralambosg, first, you should declare your car's engine and current tire size.

Now, the probable answer:
The original tires on your vehicle, if it is a D2 (1560 cc), should be one of the following two: 195/60R16 or 205/55R16.

If your current tire is a 195/60R16, the tables show that there is NO alternative for a 17'' rim.
If your current tire is a 205/55R16, then the one and only acceptable alternative is 205/50/17.

The circumference difference between 195/60R16 and 205/55R17 is 2.8%, which is considered above acceptable limits. (remember, zero is ideal).
The circumference difference between 205/60/R16 and 205/55R17 is 4.0%, which is even greater.

Sorry, I am not accustomed with deflection limiter rules. Good luck !

I have the 18" rim on my T3 R Design V40, and although (in my personal opinion) I think anything smaller than 18" on the V40 looks just too small, the limiter does give you a far smaller turning circle, but I can put up with that to obtain a more uniformed look.

I've had the car over 2 years and I dont even know the tire size

Hello,
Sorry for bumping this older thread back to life but I have (I think, in fact I'm quite sure :p ) a problem with the wheel size of winter tires I have bought. Being my first winter tyres buy ever I only looked at the tyre size mentioned in the booklet of my car but I haven't pay attention to the rim size...
There is a page online on the Volvo website but it seems like the link was taken away, so I can't find an "official" list of what wheel dimension are approved on my V40. I have find a page online where they're talking about the approved sizes but then in the text it's written: "For information with respect to these details, see . " and there's no link after the "see ." I THINK it was on the page discussed here above in this thread but it's a dead link.

So here goes the question: I bought wheels with the size of 8Jx17x55 (it's from a Volvo V60 if I'm correct), will these wheels fit on my V40 ? The tyre size are 225/45 R17 (this will fit, because they are in the list of my booklet).

Thanks for your help.

Regards from Belgium.

And this really bumps this back to life!! I bought a car with 205/50/17s but I am actually a HUGE fan of 16" tyres. Sure, everyone will point and laugh, and I'm ok with that. I want less noise and I like more rubber between me and the road. And the tyres I like are expensive as 17". So I'm trying to figure out how to get 16" rims reasonably priced. I mean there are like 3" of tyre sidewall between the lower part of the rim and the road (I live on old country roads you see...where any tyre can be rendered useless in a second...and often several times a year).

With that said, does anyone have experience in the opposite direction of 16" vs 17", going to 16"? It's a 2016 D4, and from the manual a 16" rim is needed and possible.
