2013 V40 Sat Nav Update - USB

I'm new to the V40 and so far enjoying it, a brake error, but I'll handle that separately...

I've got the sat nav update on a USB key and it says it'll take 2.5 hours to update which I obviously can't leave the ignition on for anywhere near that long - If I turn the ignition off and come back to it later, will it carry on updating from where it was left off or will it start back from the beginning?

Thanks

James

It just carries on, not a problem.
I did mine just before xmas and it took 1hr 50 mins as i did an hours drive to a relatives house and it finished before we got back even with the car turned off for 3 hours so no problem with starting it and it will continue after you restart the car
Thanks both - I'll try to get it done this weekend :)

Hi James, and welcome to the forum.
Did you have to pay to get the software upgrade so as to allow you to update the satnav by USB?
I ask because I have the same year 2013 and was told by local dealer it would cost me about £120 !?!?
Also how did your map updates go? Was it worth the update as I think the latest maps are still 2-3 years old?

Hi,
I still haven't got around to this because I keep forgetting - Next long drive I have, I'll give it a proper go :)

Don't worry about long drives...

Set the update going.

Then as your turn off the engine at the end of a journey, take the key out and open the drivers door.
The car will shut down at this point.

Then press the power button on your entertainment system for about 3 seconds, the radio will come on and continue the update.

Then get out, lock your car and go into your work/home/shops the car will continue doing the update for 30 minutes until the infotainment switches off.

Do that a few times, and all is good. No risk to car battery either.

I got mine done in an afternoon, just popped out and repeated every hour or when I remembered.

I can't trust all that software not to have bugs and end up with some "small" side effect when the update is interrupted : )
So I always start the update when I am sure that I will drive the car long enough and the update will complete in one pass. Last update from this year is 20GB in size(Europe map) and it showed at the beginning a message that the update will finish in 1:50 h, but actually it took 1:35 h.
