Has anyone had there d2 engine changed due to head gasket problems and a crack in the engine have Volvo upgraded the engine so this problem doesn’t occur again

There are several posts here about this head and block problem. The D2 1,6 is a Ford/PSA unit and I don't think Volvo have upgraded the engine.
Volvo will be pricey, As versions of engine are also in so many other cars Ford, Citroen, Mini etc you may find Independent garages could have cheaper reconditioned replacements.
There are a few units in Scandinavian breakers, decent exchange rate at present might make that viable,

fantastic! another future problem to look forward to, having spent 5 figure sum on what should be a decent car.... , that new civic looks good.....

Would that be the civic with oil consumption problems, or one of the 34,000 civics that didn't have piston rings fitted? Maybe you are talking about the civic that locks wheels when the ABS kicks in (due to a faulty valve) or the ones with faulty vehicle stability control. Maybe it is one of the 50,000 that have been recalled as the emissions control system is faulty and the cars won't pass an MOT....

What I'm saying is no car is perfect - they all have issues somewhere.
