Volvo digital service price indicator states that you should change your cam belt at 5yrs or 90.000miles where are some people getting the 10yrs from

I was told by a specialist 90,000 or 10 years
I think it might be the Aux tensioner that needs changing but just guessing. Ive just changed my wifes last week but not doing the cam belt until 10 years as that will come first.

The reason I said this was I read that someone had to replace their engine due to cam belt failure on a14 plate at 40.000 miles if you check the actions needed at 5yrs it clearly says cam belt ect

Yes I'm on that thread. I did comment on it. Their belt snapped because their aux belt failed and got tangled up on the bottom pully which happened to my wife BMW 1 series last year and stretched the cam chain. The aux belt tensioner looks so cheap that I'm probably going to change ours every 3 year or so.

There seams to be a lot of conflicting info on cam belts.

Mines the dreaded D2, maybe Volvo expect the engine to fail before the cam belt, hence no information on the digital service booking...
Im expecting F&M hampers and a bottle of Bollinger if it lasts the salesman quote of 10 years🍾🥂

I have a 2014 D3 5 cylinder- the dealer confirmed the cam belt is 10 years or 108k miles for that engine.

The auxiliary belt/tensioner is every 5 years or 55k miles though, it’s something that’s often missed.

I’ve just had my aux belt done as I only bought the car last year.

If you physically see a tensioner you will understand why it needs to be changed. I couldn't believe how poor they are on the D4 anyway.
