After searching for information, trying to figure out which camera would work on which model, I ended up ordering a reverse camera set on AliExpress.
The camera arrived home after 2-3 weeks.

It consists of an electronic module, a camera to take the place of the plate light (not adapted to my model), a video harness to connect the camera to the unit, and a "Y" harness to connect to the back of the main unit.

As is often the case with Chinese products, a photocopy is used as an instruction manual, without any clear explanation other than a few photos (from a V60...).

Before starting, my question was how to power the camera: there are 3 wires coming out of the Y beam and I was not sure if that provide the "+" ; one for the rear camera, one for a front camera, and a third one to connect an external reader (but then the wire is too small for the power to provide, not sure what it is used for ?).
So there are 3 corresponding video inputs on this Y-harness.

For the dismantling I followed the Volvo instructions available for the installation of an "official" camera.

Removing the aerators :
17174

Removal of the storage behind the console (for unlocking the automatic gearbox lever)
17169

Removing the gear lever gaiter and unscrew bottom of the console
17172

Unscrewing the top and removing the console
17173

Disassembly of the main unit.

Then I do a test to check that it works: I plug in all the cables, the new harness, the camera and I turn the power on; the screen lights up, the map appears .... but no music! I increase the volume with the button on the console, nothing! I want to switch the screen from GPS to Radio, nothing!

Arg !!!!

I try to put the reverse gear, the camera is working! Something ok !!

But it's impossible to have music, and a part of the console doesn't work anymore (ventilation ok, but impossible to change the source, to zoom on the map, etc...). Surprisingly the steering wheel controls work (zoom, wheel, ok, exit) except for the sound.

After search, I suppose that the Y-harness is not adapted to my car. In the original beam there is optical fibre which is not included in this Y-beam at all.

I guess it's like on the C30, there is a remote amplifier connected by optical fibre, so that must be why I don't have any music if the fibre is not connected ...?

(on top the car harness, on bottom the supplied harness without optical fiber...)

I'll just have to wait and see what my chinese salesman will answer me...

Any comment welcome ;)

Just unclip the black fibre optic cable holder from the original connector and clip it in the supplied connector. Had worked with my Ali-camera-module.

As you say, I unplugged/plug the MOST fibre optic and it works!
Unfortunately, the (rear) parking sensors don't work now (I hadn't checked them during my first tests). So sound or picture ?
Crappy chinese products !

It is (almost) finished since yesterday!

I tested again and the rear radar works well; in fact it is necessary to configure the electronic module well, there are 7 switches (configuration of the model -V40, xc60, etc..- with or without guiding lines, with or without front camera, with or without radar, ...) and a very bad Chinese-English translation does not help to understand.

The space is limited behind the car radio; with the Y harness and the fact that the optical fiber is not present on this extension, it is complicated to fit everything!
First step, separate the optical fiber (red cables) from the main harness and its plug from the Fakra connector, to reconnect it directly to the radio.

(LHD) I found a passage from the radio to the right-end of the dashboard, above the glove box ; that's where I hid the box and made the connections.

I bought a (supposedly dedicated) front camera, but it doesn't fit well to the logo either !
I used a Dremel, it forces and doesn't fit well, but at 1m from the car it's an acceptable view.
17435

The cable goes through the right fender and then under the door seal. I didn't find a better way.
The front camera ground is pluged on the right shock absorber.

For the rear camera, the wire goes under the trim (without disassembly) then under the rear seat and arrives in the trunk. I drilled the spare tire holder to connect the ground.
17438

I use the hole for the trailer harness.

The rear camera in the kit is not suitable for the plate light either. I disassemblied the camera from its bracket an I made a temporary mount in the plate light, but I'll buy another camera and mount it between the two plate lights.

Now when I start the car and put the drive I have a front view for a few seconds. A when I put the reverse I have a bck view of course.

The quality of the video is not great, I think the original version is better, but I now have a rear view camera!

Happy to see that you've suceed at the end. Well i took the lazy (and expensive) way and bought this kit
Also asked a local chap to istall and now works like a treat. The front camera also blends in pretty seamlessly however I'm not sure if the function makes any sense to me. All in all I'm happy with the results but next time I'd skip the front cam option.
Cheers.

Well no pictures were taken during the installation but I can share the results. The picture quality is OK, could be sharper and shades of white blends in, but in a return sees pretty good in the dark
The front camera been placed in the factory slot.

Nice integration of the rear camera.
I think the front camera is the same as mine. I wonder how it was installed...

I got a new camera (4.25€ from china... :/ ) and installed it in the rear bumper. It's better than my previous DIY!

I can't do it with mine. Perhaps a different trick. :/

Front and rear view. Don't think the guide lines are truly accurate :-D
