I find myself using the light button on my 2015 v40 keys and I don't like the fact that the DRL don't come on when I push it. Is there any way to programme it so that the DRL come on when I push the button. Also I'm new to the community so I'm sorry if this topic has been discussed before.

No, the purpose of the key functions is to enable you to find your car in the dark (approach lighting) or to illuminate your way to your front door after parking the car (home safe). The lamps that will illuminate are fixed in the logic of the function as detailed in the car handbook. Headlamps are illuminated under the home safe function, so that you can see where you are going as you walk away from the car. They are not illuminated under the approach function, as they could disrupt your night vision as you walk towards the car. If you walked into an object or tripped as a result of not being able to see where you were going, Volvo would find the ensuing litigation unwelcome ;)

Depending on your location, it may be illegal for DRLs to be illuminated unless the engine is running, and that will also be determined by the CEM programming according to the intended market for the car.

Ah I never really though about it that way I'm not sure how you use the home safe function either though my headlamps always seem to turn off when I turn off the car and get out is there somthing I'm missing with that?

After stopping the engine and removing the key from the keyslot if not keyless, pull the left control stalk back towards the steering wheel, as if selecting full beam. The length of time that the lights remain on is adjustable separately for both approach lighting and homesafe in the MyCar menus.
