Hello everyone, this is my first time posting.

It's also my first time remapping a car, ever.

So I have some really boring questions if you don't mind sharing your wisdom.

So, I have had a read in to remapping a Volvo and it seems like RICA is the way to go. Would you agree with this?

I see a lot of people talking about upgrading existing components such as clutches. I was wondering if this is necessary with it being an automatic?

I'm base up North in the West Yorkshire area, does any one have any recommendations on who to go to? Ideally a RICA specialist.

Lastly, what should I be wary of?

Thanks for your time!

There should be a maximum figure for Nm for your particular gearbox that it's rated up to.

I have a 5 cylinder D3 mapped to a D4, so it has 400Nm up from 350Nm originally.

The automatic gearbox in my car is rated to 440Nm so I'm safely below that.

Cheers man, that makes sense. Do you happen to know where I can find these figures? Do Volvo have them hiding on their site?

Thanks

Have you checked if there's a Polestar remap for your model? It may be more expensive and not as "aggressive" as other options but it's installed and fully warranted by Volvo and usually with automatics makes subtle matching changes to the gearbox operation as well.

Yeah I had a look, it's about 8BHP increase for a lot of money ahaha. I've had a D3 manual with Polestar and that basically made it a D4 and that could pull a house down. Preferred it's mid range to my current D4. Unfortunately it was never my car as at the time I worked for Volvo.

This is amazing, thank you!

Yeah it's the 8 Speed Geartronic and the specs are - stock 189BHP & 399NM

And with a remap I'm looking at 238BHP & 479NM

Gains Of 49BHP & 80NM and it looks like it's sitting just underneath that. Would you say it would be better to see if they can get it below the limit?

Thanks for this, really appreciate it.

They're results from someone else's.

I found my gearbox from the Wikipedia page:

If yours is a 4 cylinder then it may be the 8 speed Aisin TG-81SC which is also called:

It lists 2 maximum Nm figures 350 or 480, so likely 480 if your standard Nm is above 350.

My recommendation:
Go to a decent tuner who writes the remap himself based on the original software of your car, then you can get the figures you want.
Rica is just using a standard file.

I've been recommended one by a friend who has sent three of his cars there and had no bother with them.

They upload a lot of their maps to their Facebook and it looks like a decent place. This is a D4 they did a bit back - https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=4270783352961849&id=661264177247136

For comparison, with the same 8-speed gearbox, my T5 with Polestar is 253hp and 400NM torque.
