Hey everyone,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Last April I bought my 2017 V40 T2 Nordic+ Geartronic Osmium Grey at a local Volvo dealership.
I love the car but it has this weird thing with the door.

De inside plastic panel doesn't quite line up with the door itself.
It has this gap near the door hinges, you can look throught the gap inside the door.

I'm a little afraid since it's going to rain pretty hard the next couple of days.

Is this normal and does this panel have any sort of sealing function?

Hi, BurgerV40 and welcome.
Can you, please, show a picture to us, to see where is this gap and how wide is it and to can compare with ours.
Thanks for responding so quickly. I’ve added a picture of de door panel gap near the hinges. I’ve added a photo of the top of the panel as well, I thought that there was pretty big gap between the window and the panel too. I took the panel off thinking it wasn’t installed properly but this is the only way it will fit.

Thanks again

Will check on mine on the same place. There are plastic clips behind it and you need to mount that panel sliding it from top to bottom and at the same time pressing the entire panel to "catch" properly all that plastic clips around. Look that video, it is easy and notice that white clips behind around the metal part of the door.

Hi again... : )
Today I took some photos on my car...
Hmm... it is the same. On the front side of the panels(at the hinges side), that are not visible, the gap is really noticeable. Something about 2mm. On the rear doors it is even more, about 2-3mm. So, maybe you don't need to fix them. They are like that "from the factory".
Here some pictures of the front doors:

2017 Model, probably made in China, as good as it gets now
The V40 has only ever been assembled in Ghent and Malaysia. No European spec cars were built in Malaysia. Production was stopped to retool the factories for the XC40.

A small but constant gap between the hard plastic outer door card and the metal door skin is quite normal, and I think part of the intended design to prevent rubbing and noise between the two materials. What we cannot know is whether the OP's door card has been removed and refitted at some previous time, and whether all the fixings (which have a habit of breaking or getting lost when the door card is removed) are all intact.

But it will have no effect on the weathertightness of the door, That is controlled by the rubber seal around the door frame, which makes contact with the metal door skin. Nothing to do with the plastic trim panel.
