Was bored while sat in the car yesterday so read the Drive recommendations, couple of things I noticed

V40 Coasting message[/img]

This appears to be advocating coasting, while it's not actually illegal in the UK, the Highway Code suggests it's not good practice.

Start/Stop efficiency [/img]

Thought this was useful, it's indicating that 15 seconds is the threshold for start/stop to start saving fuel. Anything less than that is either neutral in saving fuel or negative.

Interesting stuff. A quick Google pulls up conflicting advice on coasting. However some of the more thoughtful opinions seem to be saying it depends on the engine management system. So if Volvo are advocating it then I guess they've set up the V40 to deal with coasting in a fuel efficient manner.

The 15 seconds threshold is one of those bits of information that's interesting to know, but you can't do whole lot about it, unless you want to hold up the traffic for a few extra seconds :)
