Yes! Also very interested in this, when I spoke to one of the guys at the Volvo dealer in Chiswick a couple of weeks ago, he said that his V60 has the same engine and is getting an average 48mpg.
Couple of things to note,
- he said his fuel economy was lower than average because of the regular city traffic
- As far as I can make out the V40 weighs about 300kg less than the V60

So I'm estimating 61-63mpg for my mix of 40%/60% city vs motorway driving which is about 80% of the 78.5mpg quoted.

Do you think that's reasonable?

During the drive of the auto journalists in Verona they could not give a fuel consumption off course.
It was not a normal drive but through mountains and so on...

But did see a mention of 5.0/100(km) in some D2 test review.

:-/ Had to use a converter to get the UK number.. 5.0/100(km) -> 56.5 mpg

The LAST BUILD C30's D2 that got delivered last month are between the 55,3 mpg and the 53,3 mpg but they are not driven in yet off course.
So fuel consumption is looking good so far.

I believe the D2 in the V40 is even more efficient..
But we will have to see.

First proper journey into London this morning in the V40 D2 trip computer says 59.8mpg... I know all trip computers lie a little but even so I can live with that.
I am going to brim the tank today and run it for a week to get a true read of mpg.

I did an hour long test drive with the T4 and got average consumption of 13.3l/100km. I know it's very high but the test was mainly at very high speeds 200-220km and even at low speeds with very high RPM so I guess this is the top consumption someone can expect from this version of the car.

I've been getting about 48-52 mpg from my D2 - this involves mainly town (30 mpg) commutes.

Have you got the TFT display? For some bizzare reason, my instantaneous MPG reading never goes above 50.0 !

I noticed this on the D2 I test drove. It has to be a bug.

Was talking to a volvo delivery driver yesterday and he was quoting to expect circa 52 mpg.

It is good and whilst i would never expect to get the published mpg of 78 mpg it does seem
somewhat quite a large gap!!!

Shouldn't the mpg be similar to the C30? I had the use of a courtesy car (C30) and it returned 62mpg on a 150 mile trip. It had a few thousand miles on the clock, so the engine must have loosened up a bit, and the drive was mostly motorways.

Exactly. Engine loosened up. Does make a big difference. Give it a few thousand miles

I noticed this on the demonstrator but since found the wheel on the left indicator stalk rotates though different options in that section of the display, one of the options is a 50mpg 'benchmark', but if you continue through the options by moving the wheel you scroll through average mpg, temperature etc.

ok... filled up my D2 this morning, 42.2 litres have done 514 miles between fillups that's

55.3 mpg (trip computer says 57mpg)
or 5.0 litres/100km

Overall my journeys were very mixed, probably just over half were motorway miles, the rest was mainly heavy city traffic with some country lane and town driving. Incidentally on the motorway doing 75mph it's only appears to be doing around 50mpg, the car fuel economy goes through the roof as the motorway gets a little congested bringing the average speed down to 60-65mph, same on the open country lanes when I'm doing 40-50mph fuel economy is exceptional.
Overall I'm pleased with that, cars not properly run in yet and I'm already getting 5-10% better fuel economy than my old BMW 118D.

D2 data, as by the car's computer. Consumption (first 500 km) of 5.0 l/100 km, which is a bit more than 50 mpg (divided 50-50 between city and on highway). I hope it will get better !

I had a demo D2 for four days and I averaged 56 mpg, although I let a colleague have a go after I reset the counter and he did give it a bit of welly!

The car had done 3000 miles and I should say 60mpg should be pretty achievable without too much effort, though it's still way off what Volvo claim.

For the first 700 km with my T3 I’ve been averaging 6,8 liters / 100 km (41.5 mpg) according to cars computer. Not bad for a new engine I guess. I’ve been driving maybe 60 % on a highway and 40 % in a city. Last 300 km have been with studded winter tyres. Official numbers for combined driving are 5,3 l / 100 km or 53.3 mpg.

What kind of figures you with petrol engines are getting?

I’m really happy with the T3 engine and it suits well to my driving style. You can hold constant speed with about 1300 rpm. Although not much happening below 2000 rpm there’s more than enough power to safe overtaking between 2500 and 4000 rpm.

I am doing 8.3 l/100km at the moment with my T4.
A lot of city traffic is not helping...
When driving "relaxed" for longer distance on the highway I can do approx 6.4 or so..
But when speeding a bit more it's around 8.

I have driven about 2000 km in my D2, and it tells me, that my average is 20km/l (5L/100km - 47mpg). I have not tried to drive economically, just 'normal' driving with both city, country and motorway.

I'm pretty pleased so far.

I'm getting 50.2 mpg out of my D2. Very pleased with that as I was only getting 33 mpg out of my Lexus IS 220D !
