Handbook is not really helpful for this bulb. It just refers to it as a specialised bulb or a bulb that can only be replaced by the dealer I think. Which is a little odd?

Interestingly for me, the V40 must be the only car I have ever had that has got to nearly 2.5 years old without having to replace any bulbs.

Having removed the glovebox on my new V40 last weekend to wire in a dash cam I was surprised it is a standard festoon bulb when most the others are LED. I did replace it with a spare LED I had laying around, much brighter and more efficient.

The bulb is not as specialised as the manual suggests then?

No, if it's the interior glovebox bulb mounted on the upper lid of the glovebox then it's definately a standard festoon, if it is the theatre lighting in the footwell that is mounted at the bottom of the glovebox then this is a specialist LED bulb.

Forgive me for my naivety, but what is a festoon bulb?!
It is the one fitted on the upper part inside the actual glovebox that has gone

Not sure if it's a fuse or not. Surely the glovebox light would share the same fuse as the passenger compartment lighting?
Ahh right I have seen those before didn't realise that's what they were called!

You're probably right Dave but the v40 does have a shed load of fuses (had to change one already) so maybe worth a scan in the manual but it's probably unlikely granted. Good news it's a regular bulb. Or festoon as I've now learned !

Aye I'll have a flip through tomorrow and if it's just the bulb might nip to the local halfrauds!

Thanks for the replies guys!

Have a nip to the local dealer and get them to replace it, it should last longer than a month unless the switch is faulty and the bulb has been on all the time

Ah excellent point! I'm there tomorrow so I'll ask them to do it while I'm there

Well apparently it was neither the bulb or a fuse but the switch that had gone. All sorted now though!

Sorry to bump this thread up, but I couldn't find solution anywhere. I'm having this exact same problem with my 2014 V40. The glove box light suddenly stopped working, and I thought (logically) that it's just a fried bulb, so I replaced the bulb. But it turns out it was not the bulb, as it's still not working. Fuse is out of question too as it's just the glove box light that's not working, and I doubt there is dedicated fuse just for this light.
So what about that switch you had fixed/replaced. Where is it placed and how to get to it. There is this standard push-lever that physically disconnects the circuit when you close the glove-box but it's not that.

The switch is at the top of the glovebox, it is just the one you would find in a fridge. Try giving it a wiggle - mine sometimes sticks in the off position

If you mean the small lever-like plastic switch that moves in and out, that's pushed when you close the glovebox, and reelased after you open it, yeah I checked that and it's not the issue. I took out the complete light housing and there's a simple circuit that's being connected/disconnected by this switch. It's not the issue. I think that problem is in the plug/jack that connects power to the light on the inside, but you need to take out the glove box to reach it.
Nevermind, it's really itching my nerves and tomorrow I'm going at the local dealer so I hope they will fix this.
