Hi

Is there any way of removing a City Safety Service Required information message that shows on the message display each time the car starts? It clears once the OK stalk button is pressed but reappears each time the car restarts.

Background is that a range of faults appeared on the dash for the ABS, TCS and TPMS systems including City Safety.

Suspected the cause was a faulty rear wheel sensor which I replaced with an OEM sensor from Volvo and all but the City Safety notifications cleared.

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

You need to read the outstanding fault codes with a diagnostic tool, fix the associated issues and then clear the codes. You will need a Volvo compatible multi-system reader. A generic OBD2 reader won't read braking system of other specific codes apart from standardised engine and drivetrain codes.

If it was triggered whilst you were repairing the car and the system is now OK, it may clear by itself after a few drive cycles. If not, you will have to read the fault code(s) causing the message to determine what the actual problem is.

The ABS and DSTC lights came on. I plugged in my code reader and it showed ABS sensor rear left at fault. Replaced with genuine Volvo part. This cured ABS and dstc lights. Plugged in to erase code but city safe service required message still present after a month of driving. I'm guessing city safe gets knocked out by an abs fault?

There are a couple of suggestions here:

The first being that there may be specific sensors for cars fitted with City Safety and the Closing Velocity Module.

Secondly, a suggestion that the CVM needs resetting or recalibrating through VIDA following replacement of parts relating to the BCM systems. It may be worth asking a dealer or independent Volvo specialist for advice.

I have the citysafe message as well. It triggers after work on car. A built in take me to your dealer message.. I popped two Abs sensors in three months. When they go the dash becomes a christmas tree. Abs. Anti skid. Tyre pressures..reduced power steering. You get the picture. Now a 3rd? I Changed the last two. Lights out but Citysafe message on. I have some doubts that sensors fall over like it, but that is what it says. Plenty of electrical issues volvos. Other good specialists do exist.. good luck..
