The official launch here in Finland is still a few weeks away but my local dealer got four cars yesterday. I tested a T4 Momentum (same as SE in UK I guess) with digital instrument panel and driver support pack. I am 1.92 cm tall and had no problems finding a good seating position. On the other hand, when the driver’s seat was adjusted to me, I couldn’t fit on the backseat because there wasn’t enough legroom.

Having driven several bigger Volvos the handling was as good I expected. Steering was solid but responsive. Visibility outside was better than I expected. Performance of the T4 was more than adequate.

On a row with other Volvos the car looked just great :). Color choices my dealer had were Raw Copper, Vibrant Copper, Biarriz Blue and Ice White. I had already made up my mind my choice would be Biarriz Blue and to me it looked the most stlylish.

As there was no unpleasant surprises I’m going to place my order on next Monday. It will be a a Biarriz Blue T3 Momentum with some extras which I will think about over the weekend.

You test drove a T4 but you're going to order a T3. Just out of curiosity, what's the reason for that? I've got my sights set on a T4 but I wonder whether my driving style would ever let me take advantage of the extra performance of the T4 over the T3 because I very rarely use high engine speeds.

The difference is not only at higher speeds. Higher engine rpms I would say. If you are used to swift gears at high rpms and you make use of the whole torque range of the engine then you will love T4 much more.

Also keep in mind that from all competition, V40 has the best engine sound, so putting the engine to work at higher rpms is great for that reason too.

Of course there is always the option to upgrade the T3 to T4 since there are no hardware differences but my opinion is to go for T4 from scratch. You will love it!

I was on the limit of my budget and the difference in price would’ve been almost 3.000 euros. I didn’t think I’d need the extra power on high rpms. Looking back I still think T3 is sufficient for my driving style and overtaking is easy enough. If I find a reasonably priced opportunity to upgrade the engine software, I might go for it though.
