After 5 years of owning the car I just realised the map lights are dimmable. Press and hold the button and the light comes on then slowly dims to the brightness you want!

My 1991 volvo 480 had that - at the same time it would also turn radio off, close the sunroof and put down/out the pop up headlamps then lock car securely.....not tried it on the v40.

Thanks to mhron: maybe good to mention it here also: Launch control with geartronic:
Gearbox in S, left foot on the brake, right foot to the ground: rpms go to 2500...
Then lift your left foot and there you go.
But that´s not a Volvo-feature launch control right? It´s just the only way to "launch" any automatic car (thanks to torque converter there´s not much harm)... on my T5 If I press brakes all the way in and press the gas pedal all the way in the car will not remain stopped, the torque is waaay to much for the brakes to handle... unless I engage the handbrake as well

It is a regular launch control, actually. I also have T5 and even with Polestar upgrade (400 Nm torque) it behaves the same. Both pedals down, the engine revs to about 2500 rpm, the car does not move an inch and then it shoots when the brake is released.

Maybe it's only on the later VEA-engine T5, which mine is (with Polestar too)? Haven't tried it yet......

My T5 is definitely the 8-speed Aisin. Smooth as silk.

This thread has gone quiet, but I found something new yesterday:
Press and hold the unlock button on the drivers door and all the windows open. Similar to the same function on the remote.

Don't forget pressing and holding the lock button closes them as well.

I tried pressing and holding the lock button in the car and it did nothing. I know it works on the remote though.

Yet again, it's in the car handbook. Global opening/closing. I know real men don't read handbooks :ROFLMAO: but it's misleading to call things hidden when Volvo have tried to tell you about them.

If global opening/closing isn't working, have you previously disconnected the car battery? If so, you need to relearn the windows. How to do that is "hidden" in the handbook :D:D:D

Handbooks are hundreds of pages long is one reason, but when you have a problem a search of the online version is worth a shot.

I'm using the Volvo app, which is basically an interactive user manual. Just had a second look and it was me who had the wrong impression that the unlock driver's door/all doors setting was referring to the opening of a door from the inside. Which is incorrect, it only applies to unlocking from outside, with the remote control. That was my mistake.
As for global opening or closing of windows, tried it today and it worked once and failed three times. I hate these types of electronics. Luckily I don't use this feature at all, but if the feature is so inconsistent, it might be a symptom of something greater that's wrong. I'll have to convince the dealer to have a look when I take it in for its service. Ugh...these Volvo dealers are just terrible, it'll be such a pain in the arse!

Sorry to be a grouch but nothing in this thread isn't covered in the manual if you read it....
De-Coding and absorbing the V40 paper manual's 100's of pages is time consuming. But it is half the size of my Merc Vito encyclopedia, half of which is warnings of dangers! Clearly by the manufacturers' admission the Vito is a very dangerous place to be. PS I can't find a page about hand signals... essential for any aspiring white van man....

To any man that's basically as hidden as can be 😆
