Ordered the 190 D4 R Design in Ice White with Rear Park Assist this week and due for delivery in around 6 weeks time. Coming from a 64 plate mk7 Golf GTD so will be interesting to compare the two engines! You don't realise how amazing the GTD standard spec is until you start configuring other brands.... :s I fell in love with Volvo after using an XC70 D5 AWD SE LUX for a couple of long trips :)

I think the new D4 certainly holds it's own against the Golf GTD equaling performance but having a small edge in running costs.
The Golf was high on my list a being honest I think it is probably a better drivers car, I am not a driver, more a cruiser and for me the V40 does this very well.

Also for me the spec level for the price! I had certain requirements, sun roof, leather, nav and heated seats. Specifying these on the Golf made it way outside my budget.
So although I think the Golf is better the V40 after discounts! Represents great value.

For the record I drive both a mk7 TDI 2.0 150hp Golf and V40 and I love my V40 it looks in my opinion amazing and I find it relaxing place to be.

Excellent thanks for the reply! I'm hoping the V40 replicates the solidness and comfort interior wise of the XC70 I drove, if it does I'll be happy! Even without driving the V40 I can confidently agree it wouldn't match the GTD's handling, but engine wise the GTD was quite revvy, and I reckon the first thing I will notice is how much harder the D4 will pull from lower down in the rev range. I was surprised that the R-Design trim lacked Cruise Control as standard though......
