I know that several members have fitted 17" Mannan wheels in place of the standard 16" Matres wheels, and I'd be interested to know whether the ride comfort is worse with the 17" wheels. I'm more interested in the comfort than in the looks.

I test drove a 16 inch car, and bought the 17 Mannan. I would say the ride is a little different but it feels pretty good and perhaps a little 'tighter' too. I have often been suckered into buying too big wheels on previous cars because they looked good and regretted it later. I would definitely not go for anything bigger on my V40 on our rutted and cracked UK roads but reckon the 17's are the best compromise for a car designed foremost for comfort. The 16's do look a bit weeny to me.

When I go out for a drive at the moment I pay more attention to avoiding the potholes than looking at the scenery. Incidentally you can report road problems easily and get successful results at http://www.fixmystreet.com/ As Michael Caine would say "Not a lot of people know that."

The only hope for the rural roads I frequent is waiting for the Tour De France next year, they will have to resurface before that or it will be carnage!
