Rear view mirror glass fell off

Hi,

I have a 2013 V40 D2 SE which I have had since it was almost new.

Yesterday the rimless rear view mirror glass fell off. It didn't break so I am wondering if this is something that gets stuck back on or do I need a new unit?

I would be interested to know if this has happened to anyone else.

This happened to me back in early December on my 2015 V40 D2 SE Lux Nav. I had been working away and my wife messaged me to say that the car alarm had gone off during the night. When I next entered the car, the mirror glass was in the footwell. That particular night had been very cold and I wondered if that had caused the thin double sided tape to fail. As the car was still under warranty, the dealer replaced the mirror head.
We have the exact same issue, the Mirror fell of last night. Looks like moisture/ cold weakened the tape holding it in place. Just trying to work out how best to fix it. Our car is 65 plate.

I spotted discolouration/dark spots (almost like peeled away foil) around the edge of the rimless mirror in my 2013 D4 around a year after I bought the car in 2015. I made a Volvo dealer aware of it when the car was in for warranty work (door seal replacement). They replaced the mirror as part of the work - but the replacement mirror has a rim around it. When I asked about the difference, I was told that it was a design change to address problems with the mirror glass dis-bonding from the mirror. Pics of new mirror below.

Had a very similar problem a couple of nights ago in my '63 plate D2 cross country. Entered the car after a particularly cold night and large daytime temperature swing to find the mirror surface no longer reflective and crumbling to the touch. Wondering if the reflective material can be obtained somewhere, or if this is a full mirror unit replacement job? Take it there's not been a recall..
This happened to me a month ago. Cleaned the mirror and stuck it back with double sided tape. Been ok since
Yes there seems a problem with the mirror glass as I found ours laying by the auto change about a month ago a real frosty mourning and somewhere to be quickly, super glue gel was my instant fix with tape to hold while setting happy to say its still wear it should be.
This has happened to mine, the glass fell off and i superglued back on but there are marks where the reflective material has come away, does anybody know where replacement glass or units can be purchased?
This also happened to me, I was told by the dealer the whole unit would have to be replaced at a cost of £60+. I stuck the mirror back with double sided carpet tape.....cost.......about 2p !!
A regular fault obviously.
reignite an old fire..... my '14 had a load of silver "bits" around the cupholder and gear gaitor, turns out the mirror backing is flaking away, the glass remains held up by the 2-3 inches of bond remaining. Dealer said no to any free fix,, classing as wear & tear, well, I adjusted it just once when I collected it from the dealer.....

Happened to me too. Told by Volvo dealers that I would have to have a complete new unit at £60+.
I stuck the mirror back with a short piece of double sided carpet tape.........cost 1p. It’s still there.

You could try a breakers yard or ebay, be a lot cheaper than a main dealer!

Take old one to local glass company, they should be able to cut a new one for you.

It’s happened to quite a few people. I stuck mine back on with a 4-5” piece of double sided carpet tape. Cost about 3p. Not Volvo’s £60+.
Hi my mirror fell off yesterday, luck did not break, so used the old double sided tap to fix back in place, but at also back door drivers side wont open now , has the car has only done less than 32,0000, I contacted Volvo to see if they can do anything, apparently Volvo have a policy, not a recall on this book in for a Tec to say yes the door wont open!!, in the hope Volvo pay for the repaie wil keep you all post4d
thanks
Mine fell off today 2013 car no problems before, local garage is using loctite mirror adhesive; thye thought double sided tape might be useless when softened by sun in the summer.
Mines a 2013 model and it fell off last year. I just used some 3M double sided tape and it’s been absolutely fine so far.
This happened to me to, used gorilla glue to stick it back together. But it now bugs me as parts of the film on the rear were scratched from its fall, so I have odd lines that Appear in the mirror around the edges. So I now have a new one which I will fit soon. Got it from eBay.
