Removing/Replacing manual gear knob & illuminating the shifter

I already do that, before making a thread post. It is not helping me much.
I know it might look nice, but my own thoughts are why bother? The TFT display shows what gear you are in, and if you need to look at the gear knob each time you change gear to see where to move it to, you perhaps didn't ought to be driving (tongue in cheek - not a dig at you personally) ;)

Listen, your comment is totally unnecessary. So make yourself a service and remove it or I will report it! It is not at all question do I know to change gears, and if you're not helping here, refrain from stupid comments.

Have a nice day
Oh dear. I did say it was tongue in cheek (ironic or flippant; a joke, not to be taken seriously) not a personal comment aimed at you, and the lack of seriousness reinforced by the "wink" emoji.

If it upset you I apologise, but something was probably lost in translation if english is not your first language.

OK, here are the instructions for the B6 gearbox which I assume is the one in your car.

I think you have two options re the wiring. Firstly, just connect the wiring from the gear knob to a suitable ignition controlled supply, suitably fused. Alternatively the wiring for the gear knob should be present in the car, but if you connect to that it may not work without reprogramming the CEM. There is certainly an option in P3Tool to reprogram the CEM to configure the illuminated gear knob as being present, but whether that switches the associated feed in the loom on or off I don't know as I've never had to try.
