Does anyone know if you need the Nav version to get the road sign information (speed limits etc) on the TFT display?

I think thats the case but, can't be 100% sure.

I'd have to say I think Volvo have shot themselves in the foot with some of the pricing of the 'packs'.
OK, the driver support pack isn't a 'must have'. But if it was priced more realistically I think Volvo would tempt more potential buyers to the brand and enhance their credentials for safety even further.

There's too many 'nice to have' gadgets isn't there? But your right far too expensive, arnt they trying to get potential bmw/audi/merc drivers across? Give us free stuff dammit!!

The irony is that one of the 'free' features- pedestrian airbag, is one that almost nobody would pay for as an option. Volvo knew they had to throw that one in for no extra cost.

Agreed. After all the sensors are already installed in the unit behind the rear view mirror.
Seems a bit pointless to have it if you haven't bought the driver support pack.

I reckon for some of these options, well road sign information for example, its just a case of plugging the car in & 'unlocking' that particular feature.
You think that'll be really possible? Where could that be done then? I suppose that your dealer won't do something like this just if you ask them to?
Might a chiptuner be able to do so?

It's always nice to get some extra "free" options :)

As Andy said above - the sensors are housed in top section of the windsceen, behind the rear view mirror. I would GUESS these sensors are used for several functions. Would a dealer 'unlock' the relevant option? Unfortunately probably not, but, i'd guess it can be done.

Would need to go to a authourised garage who specialise in volvo as they will have the computers to donwload software...I forget what the name is

I wanted the trip computer added to my c30, dealer wanted to put a new stalk in plus the software download and wanted £££'s of pounds I think it was nearly 400. Went to an independent volvo garage, £60... Just downloaded and stuck it on. That's it.

I can imagine the same sort of thing? Just software

Lucky me, i ordered the driver support pack, full park assist, winter pack and more but it has cost me £27K for D2 se Lux but i hope its worth it, only the panoramic and sat nav i excluded from the optional extras

Sounds good, I'm sure it will be worth it. Any reason why no nav?

I'm undecided about panoramic

£1200 for sat nav is just way too expensive for this level of car. I don't think even the likes of Jaguar charge that much.

Yikes! Is that the reality price for what they're asking or just brochure price? That's a lot of pennies, nav or looooooads of other options or pack I suppose

I dont think it's so easy. Road Sign Information needs front camera, not just laser sensor.

volvo154, do you like Road sign information? After one year of usage, could you tell what signs does it recognize and how does it work?

I am rather satisfied with the RSI (sorry for answering uncalled). Recognises speed limits even if they are less visible and faded, even at night. I was actually surprised it picked up even the ones I was sure it wouldn't. In unfamiliar variable limit areas it's quite convenient to look at the dashboard if you happened to overlook or forget the local limit.

It does however occasionally pick up non existing signs. Every morning it picks up a 10 mph limit in my very neighbourhood and I am still completely puzzled where from. Also, it will not differentiate between announcements and actual signs (for example, it will show a motorway sign picked up from a "motorway in one mile" sign).

To sum up - convenient, nice gimmick, but definitely not indispensable . I could easily do without it.

No problem! Thanks for your answer, every answer is usefull.
I hoped that if there were 2 signs (like "Motorway in 1 mile") it would show both. I recall reading about this, with example: speed limit only when foggy.
