Smart fuel filling

Another practical new detail is that the fuel-filler pipe is self-closing – a smart design that makes refuelling easier since there is no longer a need for a fuel-filler cap.

Very cool feature. I do not know of any other Volvos with a self-closing fuel filler pipe. Ford products have featured this for several years, including the newest Focus.

I can't help but wonder how long the filler flap lasts before it gets marked by being pressed by fingers. Our tumble dryer door has a similar action and I've fitted a small colourless self-adhesive plastic pad at the point at which you have to press.

Our Ford Grand C-Max has this and so far (8 months in) there is no visible signs of 'tumble dryer thumb'.

Ran out of diesel recently.
Bit surprised how easy it was to get fuel into the tank.
Obviously no keys needed, and no special tools.
Are they just as easy to milk?

I hate it as when there is any fuel in the pump nozzel left by the previous driver, it hits the flap before it opens and spills down the side of the car GRRRRRR!!!
