Good evening all. Recently bought a 2013 R-Design, over the moon with it.
One niggling little issue (aside from the turning circle) is that the doors don't automatically unlock when I stop the engine and remove the key. I can't decide wether this is a design oversight, or a symptom of a fault somewhere and was wondering if anyone could shed some light? They lock as they should but I have to push the unlock button to open the drivers door, the passenger doors all unlock and open by pulling their respective interior handles.

The doors, including the drivers door, should unlock when you pull the handles. You can push the unlock button to unlock all the doors.

In the security settings you can turn off the auto locking feature.

I've always liked having the auto lock feature switched on on my cars, but I can't see why the drivers door doesn't unlock when the handle is pulled.
The S40 I had prior to the V40 used to unlock all the doors when the key was removed, a feature I liked. Might give the local Ovlov specialist a call soon and get them to check it out.

If the drivers door isn't unlocking when you pull the handle there may be a fault in the mechanism. Volvo would be the easiest way to go, but it might be repairable with a bit of DIY.

My experience is that the drivers door will always open (even if I locked it with the button) regardless of whether the key is in or not. However the other doors are always locked from the outside. I know as I usually put bags in the rear footwell, and would always open my door, try to open the rear door and have this 'doh' moment, and need to unlock it either with the key or the button near the window controls. Saying that however, door locking faults is not an uncommon problem with 'older' V40s at least on the forum.

The operation of the door locks can be set so that when you press the keyfob button all the doors unlock, or you can set it so only the drivers door unlocks first, and the other doors unlock on a second press of the button.

The locks can also be set to auto lock when the vehicle starts moving.
