hi and welcome but sorry to say as with most Volvo electrics it will ether reset its self when its shut down and left to stand a while or at the very least it will have to be reset by a dealer if the battery has been disconnected wrongly or something has been removed without disconnecting it, if you have only had the car 3 days it should go back to the seller anyway as it just may have been cleared before to cover up a real problem, also at the moment I think this means that the whole airbag system is shut down and will not work until this has been checked and sorted through a Volvo workshop. independent or main. I'm sure other members will be along to give you the best advice available I'm going on what I have read over the time I have been on this forum.
hope its sorted soon for you.

Thanks for the info. I'll try and get in booked in with Local Volvo dealership this weekend and hope it's something simple and cheap to fix.
I'm not sure what the law of the land is with returning to seller. It was a small, local seller and there's nothing on their website about returns and such.

I would recommend you go back to the seller and get them to resolve the problem. Is this "small, local seller" a car dealer? If so you do have certain legal rights, including the right to reject the vehicle and receive a full refund, providing that you have given the dealer the opportunity to resolve the problem first.

If you are UK based then the law is very much on your side. Go back to the seller, they are obliged to fix the problem.

If all else fails, reply with your rough location and someone with a vida setup (me being one) can connect and identify which part of the system is reporting an error, then maybe a connection etc..

Hi that's all very good but that's just what the seller may have done !!! you don't take chances with safety in the UK when you have just purchased a car, you throw away all your rights to return the car if you attempt any repair its up to the seller to put it right, this would may have been helpful if the buyer had had the car for some time, but not after just 3 days of ownership IMO. all the best. :|

Many thanks for the replies.

I contacted the dealer who is happy to get this fixed however I have a look around for any obvious loose wires etc... and after I turned the passenger airbag off and back the warning message does not show… yet!
Hopefully it’ll stay off but will return to dealer if it re-appears.

Also need to get the Software updated on the NAV so I can update the maps. Currently suck on V.30.13.02. Guessing the Volvo dealers will want to charge for this too

Update: SRS warning light has returned, as will the car the garage on Friday

From bad to worse?

Wife took it back to dealer who hooked it up to diagnostic machine but, in typical fashion, the warning light was not on when she got there he was not able to diagnose a fault.
Now, a short journey after we have the DSTC Service Required warning '

Looks like a trip to the Volvo dealership or return the car which would be a shame is other than this it's a lovely car!

Well that's nothing to do with the airbag system.
It is the anti skid system.
Potentially the wheel hub bolt is loose, or the sensors for the abs not working correctly.

It is poor by the dealer as they can easily view historical messages, unless they have been looking at the SRS module only.

I don't think the selling dealer has access to VIDA and can acces the modules indiviually - it's more likely to be a generic ODB diagnostic reader with the ability to clear DTCs.

My initial feeling about seeing both SRS and DTSC service indicators would be that the car has potentially been rebuilt after a shunt (has it been HPI checked?), or possibly a CEM fault (maybe water ingress or corrosion on the connectors) which could be an expensive fix.

Final update (fingers crossed)

I took it to a Volvo Specialist who kindly hooked it up to a Solus Ultra machine. Errors displayed here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/ak8SylO9fauLfN9N2
He said it would only allow him to clear some of the errors.

Since then we have not had any warning light huraaar!

I booked it in at Volvo for a map software update and they checked the messages (on a VIDA?). There’ve cleared all previous errors and provided me with a print off of all pervious errors and the new cleared ‘no errors’ form. Hopefully we are now sorted, costing us nothing but a bit of time and headache. Now time to enjoy our new car!

Hi sorry for jumping on a old thread, I have a Volvo V40 2014 D2 R-Design Lux, we have the same issue of the SRS urgent service air bag light on, comes on intermittently most of the time when the seat is moved. Car has already been into Volvo dealership, couldn't find anything wrong with, reset the light, updated a module, 3 weeks after light on again, rang the garage back they said I would have to pay for diagnostic again as it could be 1 of six things. Husband has checked all plugs he can see but light has stayed on.

Any ideas or info would be appreciated thanks
