The belt change is included in the 5th year service because the service matrix grid assumes either 12 month or 20K mile intervals. If the actual mileage is lower, the belt change shouldn't be part of that service.

The change interval for VEA engines was originally 100,000 miles or 10 years, whichever occurs first, but the mileage was lowered a couple of years ago, and is now I think 90,000. Don't quote me on that though. I have the exact mileage on my PC at home, but I'm not there at the moment.

Yes, 90K miles or 10 years for all VEA engines, except emergency services vehicles where Volvo have reduced the time interval to 5 years, although most will have been changed on mileage before 5 years.

My take on that though, is that you might consider 10 years before a belt change is pushing it a bit, and if you are a driver that regularly gives your engine a fair bit of "energetic exercise" 😃 considering a shorter change interval might also be a wise precaution.

Obviously, change intervals for earlier non VEA engines may be different and can be found more easily via web searches.
