Good Afternoon All

I am just about to change the tyres on my R-Design D3 for the first time, the originals were Contisport which have been okay if a little short lived (34500km). Does anyone have a "favourite" or preferred make for the new ones?

All suggestions gratefully received.

Depends what you want really. I hate the continentals on from new, way too noisy and quite harsh. I fitted a set of Goodyear efficientgrip to my last but one car and they were lovely, hardly any tyre noise and ride and grip were great. I don't drive hard very often but the few occasions I did they were more than adequate. My brother has just fitted a set to his Mondeo from my recommendation and he raves about them now, which considering how picky he is, it's quite a good review lol.

having had 2 v40 d2s from new the first a cc fitted with Continentals the second a r with Michelin, I would go with the Michelin for better wear. the ride was perhaps better with the continentals being high profile compared with the low profile of the Michelin along with the sport chassis fitted as standard on the d2, but road holding of the r I find much better than the cc IMO that is.

Have Conti Sport Contact 5 (V rated) as factory fit on our T5, which seem better than any previous Conti I've had on a car; their Premium Contact 2 was anything but in the wet.

The previous D2 came with Bridgestone T001 which I quickly got rid of (poor in the wet and high wear), for Michelin CrossClimates, which as the name suggested worked well no matter what the weather and appeared to be fairly hard wearing.

Debating whether to replace the Conti's fitted to the T5 and go for another all weather tyre to take full advantage of our cars AWD this winter and if so I might try the more winter biased Nokian Weatherproof, to see how they compare with the summer biased CrossClimate.

What did you think of the CrossClimate, I'm seriously considering them for my T5 when new tyres are needed (not this winter though)?
Previous cars (and my other car still which is a very powerful 4WD) I had/have a separate set of winter wheels with full winter tyres on but our driving patterns/needs have changed and if the weather got really bad we would no longer HAVE to use the Volvo, so the CrossClimate seems a good option here in the UK without a summer.......

Hi Have driven cross climates for a few years on my v40 t3 cc . Tyres are no doubt good in snow, less so in ice but not great in the wet Greasy road surfaces are a worry and grip variable. Given that we have so much rain in uk compared to v occasional snow I will go To a better wet/ dry tyre like the Goodyear eff grip 2 . Cheaper, long lived and better for our most common weather conditions in uk.

Holy thread resurrection! More than 5 years ago since my post that's just been replied to. :ROFLMAO:
Anyway, I did go for Michelin CrossClimate tyres, still have them on, and I'm very happy with them in all conditions, no grip issues, but maybe they're more suited to the T5 which is AWD?
They're not ice tyres, nor to be honest are any normally sold/fitted in the UK. For driving on ice surely you'd have studded tyres as used in really cold regions?

I ended up replacing the factory Conti's when the fronts wore out at 17.5k miles with Goodyear Vector 4 Gen1, very good in all conditions and particularly in the wet, but tended to loose grip if firm braking was needed on a warm summers day. However the fronts only made it to16k miles due to shoulder wear, as apposed to centre line wear with the Conti's.

Replaced them with Vredestein Quatrac Pro which seems to improved the general handling, plus braking over the Goodyear, however they are not as quiet as the Vector.
