looking at reg transfers a similar v40 plate is about £300. I'm not sure anyone is daft enough to spend £120k on a reg for a £20k car!!

Yep. On the DVLA site I could get V40 DDH (me!) for £399

Why don't you keep the plate and sell the VW it is affixed to in favour of a V40?
