Hi everyone, I bought v40 1.6d d2 with one key only.
after 2 weeks of using my car, parked in garage.
when comeback next day i did unlock with remote as normal but got message on dash “insert key” steering it’s locked
Nothing works inside the car, I got someone to check my key or program new one as spare
But can’t, we got message that connection is lost. Anyone might know what might be the issue?
please help.....

Did you put the key into the engine start slot, and try to start the engine ?
Take out the key and re-try
Am I correct in saying you have a new 2nd key ?
There are 3 types of key and you need to get the exact same type as your original.
Is your phone close to the key ? this may interfere with the airwaves.
If you lose a key and go to Volvo for a spare, they reprogram the original and new key, so if someone finds your lost key, it will not work on the car.

We couldn’t program another key, for some reason showed on programming machine that there is no connection
I don’t know where...
Apparently antenna in dash it’s working because I still can lock and unlock the car.
I have to put key in dash it’s not keyless version

Are you sure?: On most cars the remote lock/unlock is a different system (and technology) to the start authentication.

That’s why I don’t know what problem might be, maybe some lose connection on control module under glove box...
I can hear clicking when i press start
But massage on dash stay same,..
I think we try to reset ecu to factory settings
Do you think that might help?

Dont know if it Works, but of you can get inside, open the hood and with a socket 10 disconnect the ground (black) pole of the battery for 10 minutes or so, should reset ECU and stuff, maybe also the startimmobelizer
