Hello guys,

I'm in the market for the above and I'm not having any luck finding the right one. My gear stick is fine, it just has not very nice crack/peel off on top of it and I'd like to replace ideally the knob only. If it's not possible, then I'd look into changing the whole lever. Could anyone point me in the right direction, please?

Hi, thanks for the info. I've already looked up a few things but my problem is that I can't find this gear stick anywhere. I was now told by an auto spare parts place that I'd have to purchase it directly from Volvo. I'd prefer to get a used one in a good state though. The problem is that I can't find one anywhere :(

Keep an eye on eBay, see if anyone on there is breaking a car for spares and ask if it is available.

Here is one, breaking V40 contact the seller and make an offer for the gear knob

(and another another V40)

There are 3 or 4 others as well, so you should get lucky

Good luck. For some reason it's not an easy task trying to anything for the volvo v40. I've a 52 plate and needed a hazard light switch. I phoned from fife to Essex just to get said item.
I would recommend LB Volvo spares. This guy should find what your looking for hope this helps.

Hey Jan,

I have exactly the same issue like you
Try to find some repair man, who can paint this and fix it, but it's so hard.
Also contacted the official Volvo dealer in my country and they said to me new knob cost 130 Euros :cautious:
So, I search it on Ebay for the used one in good condition and find it for cca 50 Euros.
When you changing knob, you must take off everything from the panel in front.
You will need some patient, plastic tools & torx.
These knobs are very rare beacuse reverse is next to 1st gear and is hard to find it.
You can find knob and other Volvo parts here: SKANDIX

Hey, thank you for sharing (y)
I never thought it'd be so difficult to replace this part. I have seen quite a large number of these cars having the same issue - peeled/scratched gear know, yet without an easy fix. Having to buy the whole gear knob seems really crazy to me - I guess they should have thought of that, but they didn't.
Anyway, I, FINALLY, found one on eBay as well and it's on the way to me now.
