Hi,

Yep, with lights in auto the colour scheme changes when the lights come on, and turn off. So light scheme when the lights aren't active, and then changes to dark when the lights are active.
Hth,
Huh thanks for checking! I've been trawling a few other threads on Swedespeed and similar and everyone else seems to have the same experience as you, for some reason mine just always stays in dark mode when the headlights are in the auto position.

Does your car have the "lighting logic upgrade" where the front parking lights & rear tail lights stay on during the day with the DRLs?

Installed Carplay solution as well into my V40 Cross Country 2014 (2015 MY) with High Performance music. Everything is good except random freezes and the fact that it doesn't show front parking radar, only beeps.

Also after several thoughts where to put the box, I've put it to the cold glove box. Working good!

And here are some photos of the current state of Carplay system.

The other interesting thing - if you don't have AUX like me (because High Performance has usb sound only) you have to buy special usb to aux adapter from the same store, connect it into usb and to the Carplay box and select iPod in the original car interface (not in carplay).

I'm still in contact with the seller about front parking radar indication and will add details as soon as I've got answers)

I installed the Kremersino unit in my MY15 T5 about 2.5 months ago. I agree with the real_nb in that it’s about as good as you could hope for with an after market ad on. I use an iPhone, CarPlay connects wirelessly and it almost always connects automatically. On the occasional time it doesn’t connect a simple press on the exit button for 5 seconds gets it going. This is also how you switch between the two systems. The Sensus system still works as normal in the background. You need to switch back to see aircon temp settings, heated seat settings etc. You can adjust these things without switching but you need to remember where it’s set. I didn’t get the touch screen option. Navigating with the buttons works ok but a touch screen would be better. Sound quality is excellent and having modern navigation and being able to use messages etc is great. Only real issue I have is the screen is always in night mode when the lights are on auto as described in previous post. I’m sure it’s because the parking lamps are always on when in auto. I just switch the lights on manually. The Waze app is sometimes frozen when turned on but this also happens in our other car with factory CarPlay. Overall my experience has been positive. If the software can be improved to show some of the temperature settings etc it would be a bonus.

In the process of working through a fairly buggy install on my newly acquired 2016 V40. In my experience so far the installation definitely isn’t ‘super easy’ if for no reason other than the installation instructions you get by email are very sketchy, and vague. You are instructed to remove a bunch of dash screws you don’t need to remove and they fail to mention the ones you actually do. No mention of how to deal with the gear stick either (had to google/YouTube that part). My V40 doesn’t have an aux..so had to get the extra cable. Quite where you’re supposed to locate the box is not clear..absolutely no guidance on this and the cables are seemingly too short to comfortably reach the USB port, which is not great considering this ‘extra’ costs £50. Several unexplained and unexpected additional ports which aren’t mentioned in the installation diagram just confuse things further. This unit is evidently installed in BMWs and Audis too and I get the impression the Volvo install is not of particular interest to the supplier. Email help is good but now I find I’ve lost audio probably because the USB cable is too short and is being stretched. I had great hopes for this but it’s turning into a bit of a PITA. If you are a novice..be warned. If you don’t have aux this isn’t as easy as it might sound..I don’t think they designed the bundled aux cables with a V40 dimensions in mind

How did you route the aux to usb cable and where did you put the box?

I know this was from January, but this year, so hopefully this will help somewhat. I bought the IMI unit from the UK and installed it today. It probably did take an hour, or a touch more, and 95% was straight forward, but not as the pics, so here is my take. And yes, I wish I had taken pictures, but I didn't, so I'll describe as verbose as I can, so as not to confuse.

So far, it's worth it. I haven't driven around in the car yet with it on but have tested it on two phones and turning it off and on again (the car and switching between the unit and the car). It takes a few seconds to connect, granted, but it does automatically.

Why not use it?
- Swift music transition between phone and car: Well, spotify plays on your phone and if you have your phone connected by bluetooth, it will switch over and play through the speakers when you turn on the car. Put a charger on a vent near the steering wheel and run a cable to a USB connection added into the OBD port under your steering wheel...charging and music.

Why use it?
  • You just like Apple Carplay
  • You have a Japanese import, like me, and the GPS is locked to Tokyo, where you're unlikely to be driving any time soon with your car two islands and one very large continent away.
  • Your partner says she loves Apple carplay and is willing to live vicariously through you

Seriously, though, the GPS with Apple maps, Google maps and Waze, was a big reason for me, and it's kinda cool.

Installation notes:
  • I put electrical tape around the edges of the vents (not shown in the instructions but in a youtube video) but honestly, the vent popped off easily enough, not scratches where I had no tape, so probably wouldn't bother, just be gentle. I thought you'd have to put some welly into it, but it just required a stiff flick of the trim remover (p.s. Amazon, 5 to 7 pounds for 8 tools...all plastic except for the clip tool, not a bad deal).
  • There are listed 4 torx screws at the top and a few others, and few matched. I had two that held the main console in at the top and two under the gearstick (it's an automatic, but you know what I mean & see further down on when to remove them). They are the same size, so you can interchange them and not worry about confusing them. Unscrew them (they're quite large compared to the others you will see).
  • Yes, use a trim tool (any over them or some plastic tool with a thing blade in front that's pretty touch...or even your fingers...need tough, long fingernails) and lift the base of the gearstick trim up (the round silvery bit at the base of the fabric around the gearstick). Just pull the bloody thing up and partway over the knob.
  • Now you'll see the two little screws that hold the base of the center console. Unscrew those and lift gently forward and up and the console comes up.
o NOTE: there is a connection at the base of the console and you'll need to disconnect that before it moves much.
o There is a very small plasticky bit (I know, high tech term there for you) to press down on, very, very small, to allow you to pull it out. It's how most electrical plug connections are held in. It just stops it from slipping out.
- Here is the fun bit. Follow the instructions and look at the connection diagram. The text is less important than the picture. Blue unplugs from the main connection and plugs into the blue connection on the new one and vice versa (I know that isn't a great description but look at the diagram). The orange one as well (again, remember you're just trying to pull out the plug with the two orange wires and plug it into the new plug).

Here are a few things as mentioned by others (and two not or at least explicitly):
  • Getting all of the cables back in, with the extra, bulky cable that handles all the comms (you'll know it, it's the large one) is finicky. I pressed and moved and swore at how fat my wrists seem to have gotten to get the cables all shoved into corners so that I could screw the head back in. I hope nothing is too pressed at bad angles and it's not as perfect as I'd like. And I'm not even a perfectionist. You do your best.
  • It took a while, but I finally realised that you can't rout the cables to the new box unless you rout them first (disconnected) and then connect them to the head unit. It's better to position the box in the passenger footwell and then, with a flashlight shining up from the passenger side rout the cables from the console down so you have some guide.
  • You're right, the Aux to USB converter was confusing. I literally got a connection in that I thought was close to what they said it would be (in the pic) and turned the car on, called your wan in the house and also checked the spotify. All worked, so I wiped my brow and moved on closing things up.
  • The length of the cable to the USB port (as no Aux) is horrendously short. I say that because unless you want it running over the gearshift, it's just too short to hide. I ordered a USB extender cable so that I can try and route that without seeing it.

All in all, the box fits under the carpet on the passenger side. The removal of the center console isn't that bad and even though it doesn't match, to 100%, the install pics, you should be able to figure it out. The main downsides are the Aux-USB converter which is just a tad confusing and trying to get the cables run to power it (the latter being Volvo's fault as there are multiple reasons why putting a data only port in the center console is just far from convenient.).

Hello folks. Have now also installed this Kremersino Carplay in the V40 CC. Since I don't have an aux either, I ordered this USB adapter to plug into the center console. But I didn't want to run the cable under the entire center console and now use an adapter that plugs directly into the radio body and thus has a USB socket directly behind the radio. And there I was able to connect the USB adapter from Kremersino. Of course, the USB port in the center console is then out of order. Here's the part from Amazon that's actually for the Honda, but fits and works on the Volvo too.

Unfortunately I can't post the link as I'm new here. Enter the following at Amazon "usb cable adapter keple flash drive". Then you should see a cable with a gray connector that fits right into the Volvo radio. At the other end is a USB socket.

you are a life safer... this is a great solution "Guide77" thanks for that advise :)

Little addition:
Since the original gray plug was removed from the main radio unit, the USB port under the center armrest no longer works. For this I found an adapter that connects the (pulled out) gray original plug to the USB output of the Carplay module. This means that the USB port under the center armrest works again, for example to establish a Carplay connection via a mobile phone cable or for USB sticks.
If you google "USB aux adapter honda" you will find this adapter with female and male connection (example: website caraudio24.de)
I also sketched it here, how I connected everything.
I put the Carplay module and also the Aux USB module from kremersino in the glove compartment.

And now some general experiences with the Carplay system:
So far it works perfectly. I think it's better to put the module in the glove compartment because it cools better there. It will probably get too warm under the footwell trim.
I made the settings so that Carplay only works with a cable (connection via the original USB socket under the center armrest). I don't like this wireless connection because the cell phone battery runs out quickly. And the mobile phone is charged at the same time via a cable connection.
If you are in Carplay mode, the climate setting is not displayed. I think that's a shame because you always have to switch to the other Volvo mode to see the temperature.
The light/dark mode of the display does not change when the headlights are switched on. For me, the Carplay display is always bright. It's a bit annoying at night. But otherwise I'm satisfied.
Sometimes I think if the part from realmediashop would have been better because it has a larger display and the touchscreen and the climate display work better. But you would have to pay twice as much for that.

Just installed one of these today in my 2014 V40 - aside from a few of the gaps behind the centre console being very hard to get my hands into to run cables, it all went smoothly! Using the USB-AUX converted from the Kremersino Store that tricks Sensus into thinking the box is an iPod, which seems to work well and retains the original sound quality (I have the High Performance Audio). The only issue I've noticed so far is that the map seems to stay stuck in dark/light mode depending on if the headlights were on when starting the car or not, and doesn't switch when driving into a tunnel etc - this could be an Android Auto issue though, not sure yet.

Can you give me a bit more information ? I installed this box, but as you, I have premium sound, so I don't have AUX. Do you have a link for that little converting unit ?

I'd like to have a little bit more informtaion of this image. I installed a Android Auto/Carplay unit but I don't have sound. I have premium sound so I haven't an AUX connection.
I ordered this unit : https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/1005...tml?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.47.21ef5e5bzQ3JdM&gatewayAdapt=glo2fra

In the description we see a little "USB sound cable", is that what I need ?

Hi
This page claims they have a unit with climate control and oem rear camera, the problem is that it also claims to retain "touch screen" feature (?)
