Good evening, we have a Volvo v40 which suddenly has a tailgate which won’t open from the handle on the outside of the tailgate. When you press the catch it makes a noise but does not open the boot. When you push the button on the dash the boot opens as normal. Any help, advice or suggestions would be most appreciated. This is our first ever post! Thank you.

Check your central locking settings. What does the unlock button on the remote do?

I have the same problem with my late 2012 V40 D2 kinetic. the tailgaite open without any problem with the remote and with the dashboard button. But the manual opening at the tailgate itself is unresponsive.

i am also finding difficult to find detailed information on internet... it seems nobody has ever opened a V40 tailgate on video.

any suggestion?

thanks!

I wouldn't call a 2017 car old, depends on its condition.

I believe the handle is clipped into the black outer hatch panel. The black panel is secured with 7 plastic clips around its lower edge, but first you would need to remove the lower trim panel from inside the hatch and remove the items bolted to the rear panel behind the trim, which I think include the wiper motor. The mounting bolts are fixed to the upper part of the outer panel and also secure it to the main hatch panel.

There are several versions of the handle according to whether the car has standard central locking or keyless entry, and whether it has a rear parking camera. I would ask a Volvo dealer for the pert number for your car, which they can obtain from your VIN.

Suitable Volvo diagnostic software can also perform an actuation test on the switch signal and locking motor, and also read any related fault code stored in the CEM which would indicate the nature of the problem.

Well, it is 5years older than that (late 2012).

It sounds like a lot of work. goddamit..

my model is also incompatible with most of the cheap bluetooth tools you can buy on the internet.. i think i will sell it as it is and suck up the extra depreciation.

thank you for your help!
