So much for Volvos service promise of software updates to keep the cars software and systems up to date.
This issue/update should be part of the expensive service. After all it is one of the reasons people go to Volvo for servicing. I'd expect this to be part of the software update.

Downloading, but it's very slow......

Very odd, I downloaded the update, verified it and plugged it in; the car just ignored it!
Did it exactly the same way as before.........

I had that once. Have you taken the files out of the folder Sensus Update MCA (Europe) and put them direct onto your usb stick. My car would not recognise the folder for some reason.
Different issue. I use Norton Internet Security, which insisted the exe file which is downloaded wasn't safe, so it deleted it!!!! Sorted now, but a pain as I had to turn off Norton, then download and run the file.

I had the files on a 32GB SD card, connected via an adapter. My PC sees all the files fine, but the car ignores it. And yes it is FAT32.

Took an external HDD (320GB!) reformatted it to FAT32 (using Easus Partition Master) and copied the files to it from the SD card.
Just connected it up a few minutes ago and the update is proceeding.

Any idea why the car would ignore an SD card but process a hard disk? :dodgy:

Easy process for me.
Word of advice, when you get out your car and the system shuts down, just press the power button for a couple of seconds to continue the process.
You can leave the car installing and lock it. The unit saves battery after about 20 minutes and turns off, but it makes the install quicker.

Maps and Gracenote® updated!

Just a heads up for all the Aussies & Kiwis on the forum...
I returned from a wonderful cruise from Hawaii to Sydney via Tahiti on Sunday to find Version 31456743 of the "Pacific" map was uploaded to the Oz Volvo site on 29/9/17 & it is 4.59GB.

Slightly off topic, I've just had my system upgraded to remove the 'licence code' nag-£30 from Kastners, Exeter which looks like a bargain compared to some of the figures quoted in this thread. Anyway my question is, is there any way of editing the update (Europe) maps so that only certain countries can be installed? It took several hours to transfer from the usb stick, and I am unlikely ever to visit Albania for instance.

When you are updating and you get out of the car, just turn the entertainment system back on by holding the power button down.
It will continue to install for the next half hour.
Couple of journeys and its all updated in no time.

@ techwatcher:
I happen to have a V60, but inside its more or less the same. My question to you is: To what version is this update apply to? I've the sensus without the "world" button on the left side of the console. Here In Holland the dealer told me that this update is nog for me and therefore I have to accept the old maps of 2015... The System got the update, so I can update the maps without the use of a DVD. I can use a USB.

Well, you probably have to wait 'til mid 2018 like the rest of us then :/
Didn't really think Dutchies reffered to The Netherlands as 'Holland' ? :-O

So glad I found this thread.

I'm so used to manufacturer Sat-Navs being expensive to update that I was just going to continue using my TomTom in my V40 (not yet fitted it though), as the TomTom has free map updates for life.

But knowing I can update my V40's Sat-Nav for free, I'll be using it instead, because I actually like being able to use voice control, and also the "send to car" feature on www.here.com

As Frank says, we have to wait until some time this year 2018.
Been in touch with Volvo, and they cannot give me a date for the release.
So much for 2 updates per year - Pay extra for the USB conversion, then possibly 2 years between updates !!
